Building With Purpose
It’s really easy to get carried away when designing pieces for a vehicle. I have always come from the standpoint of function over form. We’re trying to fit a subwoofer, speaker, radio or whatever into a space it doesn’t belong. I design the piece to maximize the purpose of the equipment. We typically discuss the space and cosmetic sacrifices necessary to make it happen, then build with the interior aesthetic of the vehicle in mind. If I’ve done my job right, everything will sound as it should and look like it belongs there.
A Palette of Skills
When all you have is a hammer, everything appears to be a nail…..so it’s good to have a bunch of other tools!
Having learned how to build things in the car audio environment, I have had the opportunity to learn how to work with many different materials to get to the right result. I build subwoofer enclosures and panels from wood and fiberglass, brackets and amp racks with metal and plastic, finished with vinyl, carpet or paint.
